Hi,
I had a similar project in year 10, I choose “Wireless networks”.
As Wireless networks, are fairly new technology. If you write a lot about it, it would interest your teacher.
Start the project with a basic idea of wireless networks.
Than go into details explaining: things like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, WI-MAX .
Also give a small briefing on the advantages and disadvantages of wireless network.
NB: before you start the project ask your tutors if it is ok to write about these topics

If you want to do something not a lot of others will tackle, try focusing on the telecommunications side of networking. This is far more complex than most people think.
Almost all traffic no matter what type traverses the POTS network to get from one place in the world to any other. There are many transport methods many protocols and many signaling types.
Your local phone company will provide technical assistance to you as well by request.

If you really want to veer off the beaten path and try new and exciting, try inter-provider VPNs. A VPN within an ISP is pretty easily done nowadays, but getting two or more separate ISPs to exchange VPN information so that a company in the U.S. and a branch office in Shanghai can be on the same network is a very hot commodity right now.
